Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) is being widened from just west of US 42 to I-75. A three-mile section of the roadway will be widened from two lanes to five lanes – two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane – with a multi-use path in both directions.
Two new roundabouts will be built at the intersections of Mt. Zion Rd. and Old Union Rd., and at Mt. Zion Rd. and Harmony Rd.
Curb and gutter improvements, as well as storm sewer and drainage work will be completed as part of this project.
are these improvements taking place?
The widening of Mt. Zion Rd. will improve safety and support better traffic flow in this growing area.
Beginning at 9 a.m., Friday, April 24, weather permitting, traffic will be reduced to one lane on Gunpowder between Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) and Carspen Ln. so that crews can restripe the pavement and set a new traffic pattern. Two lanes of travel will be restored by 3 p.m. Access to driveways within the area will be maintained.
Once the new traffic pattern is set, there will be one lane of travel in each direction with a center median. Weather permitting, this traffic pattern will be in place for approximately four weeks.
The intersection of NEW Mt. Zion Rd. and US 42 is open, traffic signals are operational, and traffic is moving smoothly as work continues throughout the area. Please remember, the traffic pattern has changed and this is an active work zone. Reduced speed limits remain in place and will be enforced. Traffic wishing to enter a roundabout always yields to traffic already in the roundabout.
Also, crews are working on the area between Gunpowder and Tiburon. This work may require temporary lane closures on Haven Hill and North Tiburon. Flaggers will be in place to direct traffic when temporary lane closures are needed.
The intersection of Blacksmith Dr. and Mt. Zion Rd. is open, and one lane in each direction is open on Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) within the project area.
much will the project cost?
The construction cost is expected to be approximately $26 million.
