Mt. Zion Reconstruction-US 25 to KY 1303

WHAT

is the scope of the project?

Mt. Zion Rd. (KY 536) is being widened from two to four lanes between Dixie Hwy. (US 25) and Bristow Rd. (KY 1303).

A new right turn lane will be built for traffic turning right from Mt. Zion Rd. to Toebben Dr.

Two roundabouts will be built:

  • At the intersection of Mt. Zion Rd. and Sigmon Ln.

  • On Mt. Zion Rd. approximately one-third of a mile west of Turkeyfoot Rd.

A raised median will be constructed between the two roundabouts, which will prevent drivers from turning left between the two roundabouts.

A multi-use path will be built on both sides of Mt. Zion Rd. along the entire length of the project.

Traffic signal improvements will be made.

Curb and gutter improvements, as well as storm sewer and drainage work will be completed as part of the project.

WHY

are these improvements

taking place?

The widening of Mt. Zion Rd. will improve safety and support better traffic flow in this growing area. The new roadway will provide more capacity, feature wider lane widths, and improve sight distance and overall roadway geometry. Upgraded traffic signals will help traffic move more efficiently throughout the corridor, and multi-use paths will improve pedestrian safety.

WHEN

will work begin and end?

Utility relocation is expected to begin in late 2021.

Project construction is expected to begin in spring 2022.

Project completion is expected in spring 2024.

WHERE

will there be impacts to traffic because of the project work?

There are no current impacts to traffic as a result of this project.

HOW

much will the project cost?

The construction cost is expected to be approximately $17 million.
