I-275 Pavement Rehab

WHAT

is the scope of the project?

A total pavement replacement is taking place on a three-mile section of I-275 in both directions between Dixie Hwy. (US 25) and Turfway Rd. (KY 717), just east of the Mineola Pike exit.

Construction will be completed in two phases:

Phase 1:

I-275 eastbound from Turfway Rd. (KY 717), just east of the Mineola Pike exit, to Dixie Hwy. (U.S. 25) was finished in 2019. Additionally, work was completed on the following ramps:

• I-275 eastbound to I-75 northbound/southbound

• I-275 eastbound exit to Dixie Hwy.

• I-75 northbound ramp to I-275 eastbound

Phase 2:

I-275 westbound from Dixie Hwy. (U.S. 25) to Turfway Rd. (KY 717), just east of the Mineola Pike exit, will be paved in 2020. Additionally, work will occur on the following ramps:

• I-275 westbound ramp to I-75 southbound

• I-275 westbound entrance from Dixie Hwy.

• I-75 southbound ramp to I-275 westbound

WHY

are these improvements taking place?

New pavement on this heavily-traveled section of I-275 will make travel smoother and safer for all who drive this section of the interstate.

WHEN

will work begin and end?

Construction is being completed in two phases:

Eastbound I-275 work was completed in 2019.

Westbound I-275 will be paved in 2020. Construction is expected to begin in the spring and continue through 2020.

WHERE

will there be impacts to traffic because of the project work?

Welcome to Phase 2! Two lanes of travel are open on I-275 westbound, and the new pattern of traffic for the next phase of improvement work has been set. Traffic is using the two left lanes of travel, while work continues on the right and outer lanes. This traffic pattern is expected to be in place until mid-July.

Additional Traffic Impacts:

Thursday, May 21 - Friday, May 22, weather permitting:

Ongoing improvement work will require various closures on the ramp from I-275 westbound to the I-75 interchange.

  • At 8 p.m., the left lane of the ramp from I-275 westbound to I-75 will be closed.

  • At midnight, there will be periodic full closures of the ramp from I-275 westbound to I-75.

  • By 5 a.m., Friday morning, the ramp will be reopened to traffic.

In addition, beginning at 8 p.m., the right lane of I-71/75 southbound will be closed from the Buttermilk Pike on ramp to the I-275 exit ramp. This closure is expected to be in place through mid-June while ramp work is completed.

HOW

much will the project cost?

The construction cost is expected to be approximately $31 million.
